A twist on the percentage question

So I just changed salons after being offered a place on commission @ 35/65. The question that came up today was how to figure that out. Which method do you use? Division or multiplying the %
Ie. Hypathetical
This weeks income
485 divided by 1.35 leaves $360 to the stylist $125 to the shop
485 x 35 % leaves $315 to the stylist $170 to the shop
